Bad goes to worse when Sam finds himself first floating among coral in SCUBA gear, and then into a life-saving situation when the object of his leap falls from a cliff and is mortally wounded. As the life of the person he's there to save ebbs away in his arms, Sam is unable to leap because the Visitor has died at the Project. With the winds of Hurricane Iniki battering the small tent of doomed survivors on a deserted island, Sam finds he has finally leaped, but is not alone.
