Happy Leap Day!

Happy Leap Day everyone.

Unfortunately being in Ireland, I don't have access to the Quantum Leap Marathon on Sci Fi USA.

The weekend Sci Fi UK / Ireland is running a marathon of Time Travelling films on the channel. They call it Leap in Time weekend. Alas, no Quantum Leap on the list as UK Gold have the rights to it. D'oh! <img border=0 src="http://www.binaryrhyme.com/ubbicons/cry.gif" />

Leap On!

I just finished watching the Quantum Leap marathon on the sci-fi channel and saw the final episode of the series and have a question. I guess this is a spoiler question, so you might not want to read further if you haven't seen the final episode yet :wavey

Why do you think Sam never returned home if "Al/bartender/God" said it was his own choice to do so? Do you think it was because he felt he touched so many people's lives by leaping, or he really didn't have a choice in the matter. Just wondering what others thought. It was an excellent episode, but thought it was a little sad that he never returned home. Thanks.

re: Sam's return

From a user on IMDB:

The Bartender was explaining to Sam that his subconscious will was the driving force behind his Leaping. Do you really think Sam would rather live a normal life with his wife knowing he alone is capable of righting the wrongs of the past? Sam may claim that he wants more than anything to return home, but clearly he's not the kind of person who could be happy while atrocities might be prevented. They explain Sam's predicament the best way they can by showing how he needs to help others even when that means sacrifices from him. The Bartender allowed Sam to realize the contradiction between his conscious desires and his unconscious needs. If Sam had choosen to go home, the bartender explained, then he would be allowing the sorts of terrible things like Al's failed love life to happen. The Bartender wasn't really offering Sam the choice, he was explaining the choice. Al's problem was just an example of all the things that went wrong with the past and Sam's decision to help Al instead of himself was just an example of all the times Sam made the subconscious decision to help save people in the past instead of himself. Sam found out that leaping through time was the only possible thing he could do. Because Sam's will to help people stayed constant for all those years he spent leaping he finally got the chance to help his closest friend. How could he ever give that kind of responsibility up? Even if it means his work has to keep him away from home.

I was flipping channels this morning, waiting for the usual boring stuff... and came across Quantum Leap on SciFi! I hadn't seen the show since way back when it was running as a regular weekly series and loved it then! Only problem was... by the time I found it today on SciFi, only the final two episodes were left in the marathon. BUT! When I used to watch the show ages ago, I never got to see the final episodes! Glad I finally got to see the end! Better late (REALLY late) than never! By the way... seeing those two episodes prompted my search on the internet which led me to this site! Just signed up a few minutes ago! :hurray :

May I be the first to welcome you here!
It is a really great place, and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say I hope you will love it as much as we do.
