In one of my stories I quote this as being Donna's song:
I Will Wait for You
If it takes forever
I will wait for you
For a thousand summers
I will wait for you
Till you're back beside me
Till I'm holding you
Till I hear you sigh
Here in my arms
Anywhere you wonder
Anywhere you go
Everyday remember
How I love you so
In your heart believe
What in my heart I know
That for evermore
I'll wait for you
The clock will tick away the hours one by one
And then will come the time when all the waiting's done
The time when you return and run
Straight to my waiting arms
If it takes forever
I will wait for you
For a thousand summers
I will wait for you
Till you're here beside me
Till I'm touching you
And forevermore
Sharing your love.
It is from the film "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" (1964) and the score was by Michel Legrand, English lyrics by Norman Gimbel.
I first heard it on an LP of my mother's of songs sung by the actor Edward Woodward. He also did a pretty good version of Impossible Dream on it (though not as good as Scott's of course). The ALbum was called "It had to be You" and was all showtunes. I guess like Sam and piano teachers, I have a thing for singing actors!
