For those of you who are products of the 80’s, allow The Rod to indulge you….. If you are a fan of the Battlefield:1942 game for PC, take alook here: This allows you to play as a robot, able to transform into the vehicle class you have picked. Well, right now you dont actually transform, rather you can spawn a vehicle, but it makes the transform noise, so its just as good. While this release is more or less brand new (and a good few years in the making) V2 will be out soon, featuring G1 transformer characters for your pleasure. The Rod spends time playing online at the Transformers Mod Server, maybe He will see you there….
Why IS The Past So Popular??? Everywhere The Rod goes, He sees the past. Now you might be forgiven for thinking that somehow The Great One has invented a time machine…no, it would appear, that Retro is back in once again. However, you don’t need retro to feel the past, or even to see it. Classic muscle cars are making a comeback, a guy a block over from The Rod has a ’69 Charger. Classic rolling iron like this and many others are turning up every where. DVD box sets containing classic TV shows are big as well, The A Team, Knight Rider, Quantum Leap and now Airwolf (The Rod is rubbing His hands in glee with THIS One!) are available for your viewing pleasure. Classic songs are being used by todays films, example in point: Stevie Wonders Superstition appearing in I, Robot and many other films. TV Shows like Star Trek and more obviously Quantum Leap dealt with Time travel.. So just what is the fascination with the past? Why are Human beings obsessed with it?
Medicine Perhaps? Was the past any better than the present, surely by now civilization has cured many of the ailments confounding the medical experts of say the 60’s or 70’s? Has mankind really cured any seriously dangerous diseases??
Ok, What About the Music? Perhaps it was the music? It is widely opined that music from the 60’s and 70’s is better than todays audio drivel. The Rod Himself loves AC/DC & Led Zep, 2 bands from this so called golden era. He also enjoys music from the 80’s (Rock and Metal), but strangely enough He does enjoy some of todays artists. Ahh…but a LOT of people prefer music today to that of yesterday….
Perhaps it was because then you could trust the government? Ahh, but here is another matter entirely. Governments from ALL ages are always embroiled in controversy over something. Be it wars, public matters or anything more sinister. So the government hasn’t changed either…
Its GOTTA Be The Wheels, Man! Ahh….Yes. That is what always sets The Rod’s heart a fluttering. Nothing gives Him more pleasure than to see a beautiful classic Pontiac GTO, Dodge Charger or any number of beautifully restored or cared for cars from the 60’s 70’s and even 80’s Well, cars HAVE changed a helluva lot in the past 40 years. But, Quantum Leap rarely focussed on the rolling stock of the era Sam leapt into….
Maybe its Science Maybe its mankinds scientific advances. Many inventions have come along, or even come a long way since the 60’s. The Micro computer is now perhaps the most advanced thing in the common household? Perhaps the DVD. Would predessors look at a tiny disc and be amazed that 3 hrs of film can be viewed from it?
Cyberspace? The RodTernet, now home to ALL kinds of fun. From home shopping to online gaming. Cyberspace has come a long way.
Outer Space? Of course interstellar travel and vacationing is just starting to kick off, unlike the view of the 60’s, in which we all inhabit Mars by now…
Ok, so perhaps He cant summarize it in one document, but what exactly IS society’s obsession with the past? You cannot deny there is one; why else does TV show Time Travel frequently, or why else does the classic car hold such a place in mankind’s heart. Why is it, that classic rock n roll always gets turned up whenever its played. Answer that then…
The NEW RodMobile V4.0 ‘Rock n Roll’ Corner Baby!! For those of you new to The Rod’s ways, He travels the highways a lot, this having a lot of time to spend listening to good music. As He is a generous guy, He likes to share His musical enjoyment with all of you. He has a wide and varied taste in music, with a tendency to lean into the olden days of Rock/Metal. This time, the album is Fun Loving Criminals – Come Find Yourself. Now The Rod normally hates rap music, hates it worse than anything He has ever hated ever! The FLC however have combined Rap and Rock to make a great overall sound. They are now around 4 albums on and still just as good. So check this one out, if you like it, take a look at their other albums… Of course, The Rod has to try and tell you how these particular brands of music could fit into any Quantum leap episode, but you know what, it just would! Don’t complain, this is RodVision, and He’s The Hot Rod Baby!! He IS The Hot Rod BABY!!! Rod Out!
