Previously on The
Starbright Project - SPOILERS
In late January 1984, Sam
Beckett has arrived at the Starbright Project and met the members of his team. He meets a
drunken Al beating a vending machine with a hammer, but realizes that this man is good
underneath and agrees to help Al solve his drinking problem. Sam discovers that the energy
ball that controls SID also has regenerating powers that speed the process of healing.
Al's career was saved from termination by CIA operative Ross Adams and an alliance between
Al and Sam began.
Sam, as instructed by Donna's
stepfather, Colonel Bradley Radford, escorts Donna to a dinner after a meeting at
Washington Convention Center. Sam talks Donna out of her resignation thus preventing her
leaving the project.
The blue orb controlling SID
takes on new properties. It has
begun to grow and think on it's own and can communicate with Sam through brainwaves.
A group of visitors sent
to the project by Weitzman arrived for a tour and a chance to dine with the scientists.
Johnny Bartlett and Al Calavicci conducted a tour of the facility; when it became too
taxing for the pregnant Chief Petty Officer Shannon MacLean, Al remained in the lounge
with her while Johnny continued with the tour. Shortly thereafter, she informed him she
was carrying his child, courtesy of a drunken whirlwind weekend in Las Vegas that she
specified with eerie accuracythough Al swore hed never met her before. Ross
Adams overheard the accusation, and immediately reported it to General Collins, demanding
Als removal from the project. Collins put Al on suspension, but only with the
restriction of remaining on project property at all times. At the dinner that night,
General Collins confronted Chief MacLean and informed her she too would remain at the
project until everything was sorted out. Donna Elesee overheard the conversation and
immediately assumed Als guilt, leading to a minor disagreement with Sam Beckett.
Feeling betrayed by Collins, Bartlett, and having argued with Tina, Al was tempted by a
lone bottle of alcohol hed kept to test his will, and nearly fell off the wagon, but
was diverted by Sams arrivaland was further gratified by Sams support.
In a shocking twist, we learned that Alia had actually Leaped into Shannon MacLean and,
with Zoë's guidance, is enacting Lothos plan to eliminate Al Calavicci from future
interference by removing him from the Starbright Project and having him dishonorably
discharged from the military. Feeling nearly everyone but Sam has turned against him, Al
struggled with how to deal with the accusations leveled against him. The Evil Leapers
found their plan foiled by their own people, when MacLean flatlined in the middle of the
abortion. The real MacLean was Leaped back before Alia became trapped in the past, and the
Project medical staff rushed to save the lives of the chief and her baby, then faced with
the mystery of the suddenness of her injuries. Assistance came from an unlikely source as
Perry Thompson came forward with information that vouched for Al. General Collins and
Johnny Bartlett proved themselves to be fully in Als corner, despite the myriad of
questions surrounding Shannon MacLeans condition. Donna came to an understanding
where Sam and Als relationship was concerned and began empathizing with Al for the
first time. Her newfound empathy also caused her to reach out to Tina. Shannon MacLean
stired after Al visited her in the hospital, showing the first signs of emerging from her
coma, but when she regained consciousness, she had no idea who he is.
Moving forward two years in
our timeline to New Years Eve 1985, Sam, Donna, Al, Tina, Bobby, and Dana all take a trip
together to New York City. Dana wakes up from a nightmare about having died, which
have been occurring since 1973 when she was supposed to die in the "original"
history. Sam proposes to Donna at midnight and she accepts.
