Quantum Leap Lives!!! Slight update: We now have an updated address for Don Bellisario, courtesy of Margaret Colchin of the Project Quantum Leap fan club! *** We have won. At 12pm, Eastern Standard Time, on July 9, 2002, scifi.com posted the official announcement that there is now a two-hour television movie based on the the Quantum Leap series in development. Donald P. Bellisario has signed on as the executive producer, but we are still awaiting word on whether Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell will reprise their roles as Sam Beckett and Al Calavicci. Here are all the links I know of so far that contain information about the news: SciFi.com

*** Since this news was announced, the Leapers have had split reactions. Half are celebrating their success, while the other half are being very pessimistic because of some of the things said in the above articles. So, I would like to make a statement here and state our new goals for the Revival Initiative. We have strived for years (well, not me personally, but that is because I am a newer fan) to get Quantum Leap revived. We have written letters, signed petitions, speculated on whether Sam will Leap home when Quantum Leap is finally revived. Perhaps we have never fully thought about the whole "Will Scott and Dean be in the movie?" because we were so busy just fighting to get Quantum Leap revived. And now that it finally has, that question is now taking precedence. Yes, we all wonder how this continuation of Quantum Leap will turn out, but we must not be pessimistic and lose hope. Instead, we now have new goals for this campaign that must be reached. We must send letters to Bonnie Hammer (President of the Sci-Fi Channel and the woman who made the decision to revive Quantum Leap), thanking her for her decision to revive Quantum Leap and to ask that Scott and Dean take part in the revival; to Don Bellisario, congratulating him on this great news; to Scott Bakula, to congratulate him and to encourage him to take part in the revival; to Dean Stockwell (who's current address we now have), to congratulate him and to ask if he will be a part of the revival. We must also celebrate. Pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. Without us writing letters, Universal and Sci-Fi would never have seen the interest in the show and would never have seen that a revival needed to be done. Also, many people are taking the words of the writers of the different news articles as fact. The only words we should be taking as fact are the direct quotes from Bonnie Hammer herself. If you only read her quotes, you will not see the words "cameo" and "remake". ABOUT THE CHOICE TO REVIVE QUANTUM LEAP "QUANTUM LEAP is absolutely a classic. It’s done well on our channel in repeats and we’ve always wanted to do a QUANTUM LEAP reunion movie. And then when we started thinking about it and then we merged back with Universal, we said, ‘Wow, let’s do a two-hour movie. Let’s see who we can attract from the original series and let’s start our own. So we’re thrilled about that because [QUANTUM LEAP] is so pure sci-fi, but so mainstream that I think we’re going to pull in a whole new audience." *** ABOUT WHETHER SCOTT BAKULA WILL OR WILL NOT BE INVOLVED "You never know. You never know." *** ABOUT THE DECISION TO REVIVE OLD UNIVERSAL TITLES "Projects such as QUANTUM LEAP and TREMORS exactly why SCI FI is excited about being part of the Universal family. We have an opportunity to access the rich Universal library - which includes a vast array of horror and sci-fi titles – to create new television experiences for a contemporary audience." *** ABOUT WHAT THE MOVIE WILL BE "...updated, fun and maybe with a female leaper, too, this time." *** I see nothing here saying that Scott will not be involved. I see nothing here that says they want to remake the series. In fact, Ms. Hammer said--quote, "...we’ve always wanted to do a QUANTUM LEAP reunion movie." And if you check out the other "Breaking News" article on Cinescape that talks about Battlestar Galactica, you'll see the difference between their decision to *remake* Galactica and to *revive* Quantum Leap. Also, although there were no actual quotes given, it has been confirmed by Hollywood Reporter, Sci-Fi Channel, and TV Guide that Donald P. Bellisario has already signed on as executive producer. With that said, let the second phase of the Quantum Leap Revival Initiative begin! --R.

I have created the Quantum Leap Revival Initiative Webpage for Alongtimefan. She deserves this for all the hard work she has put into the Revival Initiative. She is the true mastermind behind this whole thing... I'm just a web-savvy teenage girl who volunteered to do the maintenance on this website to help the cause. Alongtimefan asks that we acknowledge the significant efforts of the many Quantum Leap Revival Initiative supporters who frequently post on the Sci-Fi Channel Quantum Leap Bboard. These posters actively and regularly contribute to the Revival Initiative. The handles of just a few of these supporters are: MTLeaper, Billcreeper, SamBecketLover, Ziggy_the_Ego, Luckleaper, LoLeap, Helene, Warrior809, MacLeaper, Wishful_Dreamer, Beatiales145, Vanished88, Bakfan_uk, Lt_Dater, Goodomer, Leaper1, Lovedoll138, QuantumLeapAddict, BlueGoat, Lemur3, Camdacrs, Muffins, Vanexel/711, Amder, Temporaltheorist, Webspinr1, Smrattler and many, many, many others. I would also like to acknowlege the dedicated Leapers over on the Xsorbit board: TVNewsCam, SueJBakula, Becketts_Babe, Eleseee, Valeria, Forceflo, ZiggyBeckett, and all the others. No webpage could ever be large enough to list all the key contributers to this Revival effort. So, I would like to thank all of the contributing members on the Sci-Fi Channel Quantum Leap Bboard and the Xsorbit (Un)official QL Site Board for their dedication and, well, initiative for getting Sam Beckett home!!! Keep the Leap Alive, Leapers of the World! --Joy Cogan A.K.A. tina_als_girl-- |
