At least we get a bit more insight into Magic. It's extremely unlikely that he went from a Petty Officer Second Class to Admiral but what the heck.

Agreed! He could have utilized a form of the STA-21 program (Seaman to Admiral). LDO and Warrant Officer aren’t the only two paths for a mustang.

He could have gone through NAPS and on to the USNA as well but again... what the heck.
