This is directed to those of you that have been producing the online episodes that continued the story following Mirror Image. To your knowledge has Don B. ever seen your work, or commented at all on it? Along those lines, there is of course one of the greatest wrongs in history that maybe someday Sam could right...
October 14, 2003 - Chicago, IL - as he leaps in, Sam is suddenly overwhelmed by the noise of a crowd he has apparently landed in the middle of. Looking around he sees he is in the first row pretty far down the third base line at a baseball game. Checking the scoreboard he sees Marlins - 0 Cubs - 2 and it's the top of the eighth inning, one out. As the PA announcer begins to tell the crowd "Now batting for the Marlins..." Sam drops something he hadn't realized he was holding when he leaped in. On the cement in front of him is an 80's style Sony Walkman...

Ok, so you have to be a baseball fan to appreciate it...but the episode could simply be called "Bartman"...<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif" />

Heh heh...

I think I'll just let Greg answer this one...

Suffice it to say, if you've seen "Lee Harvey Oswald," you'll realize that anything Sam changes has become part of our collective history already. So, in terms of the 2003 World Series, the outcome was different in the "original" history. What happened from our perspective is the altered timeline (to the dismay of New York fans, like myself). ;)

Speaking as a Marlins fan, I like history just the way it is, thank you... and in Season 10 I had Sam leap in as a non roster invitee in 2002 for the Marlins in spring training (Touch 'Em All). He "tweaked" history so that Josh Beckett would be called up sooner (aka current real history) and make the big team a year later in 2003 to win the World Series.

For the baseball illiterate...In the 2003 playoffs, the Florida Marlins were just a few outs away from being eliminated by the Chicago Cubs. Marlins second baseman Luis Castillo lifted a fly ball foul down the left field line. Cubs outfielder Moises Alou ran towards the stands and reached in to make the catch but a fan named Steve Bartman (along with other fans) tried to get a souvenir and ALou could not make the play. SInce the ball was right over the edge of the stands overlooking the field, Alou complained that a fan interfered with him making the play. After that incident, the Marlins rallied back in the 8th inning to win Game 6 and then won Game 7 to eliminate the Cubs before going on to defeat the Yankees in 6 for the World Series title. Speculation was that the "curse" that has plagued the Cubs since the early 20th century came back and doomed them.

Anyway, Steve Bartman is not to blame for the Cubs losing the playoffs in 2003...There were other fans reaching for that ball and because of that I doubt Moises ALou would have made that play even if Bartman made no effort to catch the foul ball. I point the finger at Cubs Shortstop Alex Gonzalez for booting Marlin Miguel Cabrera's easy grounder, Mark Prior for throwing too many inside fastball at Pudge Rodriguez and Derrek Lee, and Dusty Baker for leaving Prior in that long.

The Curse of the Bambino has been broken.....can the Curse of the Billy Goat be very far behind??????

It might be....it could be....it IS....a Home Run! HOLY COW....Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Cubs Win! :D

<g> Cubs fans....10% fan....90% scar tissue

Well, I don't mean to be breaking with bb etiquette by causing too much of a baseball discussion on the QL messageboard. <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/tongue.gif" />
Suffice it to say I don't believe Bartman was the reason the Cubs lost, and while I do agree that Gonzalez deserves his fair share of the blame, I'm still not ruling out the curse of the goat... <img border=0 src="http://www.knightshow.com/smilies/banghead2.gif" />

Cards fan here. All I can say is I loved that day because it meant that there was a team at the World Series I could cheer for. Bartman's fault? No. It was definitely the Cubs fault (or the billygoat). Who pitched the ball again? Who still had another game to play? Who built the field where fans could easily reach over and grab a playable ball? Duh.

IMO i like the more dramatic tasks that sam has to deal with. yeah that's right, i am a fan of drama, hehe. just a heads up for the future, just in case, when i write my stories they are usually all dramatic, because that's my thing.

You wouldn't have liked my Season 10 story Glitter, the original history was awful...Yanks beat the Cubs in 2003 World Series easily after Sammy Sosa is hurt bad early in the series trying to slide into second, ruining team morale...Sam of course changed that indirectly by making sure Josh Beckett (no relation) was called up to the Marlins big club earlier than planned to make the team in 2003...I thought Josh's Game 5 start against the Cubs was pivotal since it set up Game 6 and 7...

This wasn't answered. Yes and no. I believe that Don knows about it but he is not looking at the stories for fear of someone claiming law suit if one of the future episodes comes rather close to something we have already written.

I'm sure DB had plenty of material either on the shelf or in his head at least concerning the QL storyline. Perhaps some of his ideas were similar to some of the stuff you all have written here. Anyway, I guess I find myself scratching my head a bit about the current situation of QL coming back. If he, Dean, and Scott are all not currently working on other projects, and Sci Fi channel is as interested in attempting to bring it back for a telefilm at least, why isn't anything being done? What's keeping it from getting underway? Sounds like there must be a hangup somewhere.

Well, right now Don is busy with NCIS. From what I understand, all he was able to do was read Trey's script and give it his blessing. I really wish he'll have more involvement than that, though. My guess is that Quantum Leap is just not where Don's mind is at the moment. I'm guessing that most directors and producers like to put all their energy into the current projects they're working on. But why Trey just can't get Sci-Fi to get the wheels rolling, get Dean and find an actress to play Sammy Jo is beyond me. And personally, I think Scott would be insane to pass up another opportunity to play Sam Beckett and that he should be in the movie/series more than a cameo appearance.

I may be wrong as I didn't really watch either show much, but weren't JAG and NCIS running concurrently for awhile? If he managed both of those at once, couldn't he take on at least overseeing ABLF if he's given his blessing to Trey's script? Maybe Sci Fi has just cooled on the idea. If things are as quiet on this front by the end of the year as they are now, it would seem doubtful that things are going to happen. I hope it's not the case, but it would be disheartening.
