There are a lot of songs which fit the characters and situations of Quantum Leap, and some are being listed as Themes for Al and/or Sam.

The ones I like best are the songs that address the relationships between the main characters.

I was playing through my i-Tunes earlier, and it struck me that this song could well describe Sam's lifestyle and Al's role toward Sam(imagine Al singing it to Sam):

No mountain's too high for you to climb
All you have to do is have some climbing faith, oh yeah
No river's too wide for you to make it across
All you have to do is believe it when you pray

And then you will see the morning will come
And every day will be bright as the sun
All of your fears cast them on me
I just want you to see

[1] - I'll be your cloud up in the sky
I'll be your shoulder when you cry
I hear your voices when you call me
I am your angel

And when all hope is gone, I'm here
No matter how far you are, I'm near
It makes no difference who you are
I am your angel
I'm your angel

I saw your teardrops and I heard you cry
All you need is time
Seek me and you shall find
You have everything and you're still lonely
It don't have to be this way
Let me show you a better day

And then you will see the morning will come
And all of your days will be bright as the sun
So all of your fears just cast them on me
How can I make you see?

[Repeat 1]

And when it's time to face the storm
I'll be right by your side
Grace will keep us safe and warm
And I know we will survive
And when it seems as if your end is drawing near
(The end is drawing near)
Don't you dare give up the fight
(Oh no)
Just put your trust beyond the skies

[Repeat 1 until fade]

It is of course "I am your Angel" by R Kelly and Celine Dion

Ok I really don't like Marieh Carey but this song always makes me think of the friendship between Sam and Al

ANYTIME YOU NEED A FRIEND

If you're lonely
And need a friend
And troubles seem like
They never end
Just remember to keep the faith
And love will be there to light the way

Anytime you need a friend
I will be here
You'll never be alone again
So don't you fear
Even if you're miles away
I'm by your side
So don't you ever be lonely
Love will make it alright

When the shadows are closing in
And your spirit diminishing
Just remember you're not alone
And love will be there
To guide you home

Anytime you need a friend
I will be here
You'll never be alone again
So don't you fear
Even if you're miles away
I'm by your side
So don't you ever be lonely
Love will make it alright

If you just believe in me
I will love you endlessly
Take my hand
Take me into your heart
I'll be there forever baby
I won't let go
I'll never let go

Anytime you need a friend
I will be here
You'll never be alone again
So don't you fear
Even if you're miles away
I'm by your side
So don't you ever be lonely
It's alright
It's alright

Not sure if you agree with me but hey ho thats just me :)

I think this song would be perfect for the Quantum Leap movie (if it gets made). The first time I heard this song I thought, "that could be Sam's song!" The line "And I feel just like I’m living someone else’s life" is perfect for the series.

"Home"

Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome
But I wanna go home
Mmmmmmmm

Maybe surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel alone
I just wanna go home
Oh I miss you, you know

And I’ve been keeping all the letters that I wrote to you
Each one a line or two
“I’m fine baby, how are you?”
Well I would send them but I know that it’s just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that

Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I’m lucky I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I’ve got to go home

Let me go home
I’m just too far from where you are
I wanna come home

And I feel just like I’m living someone else’s life
It’s like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
That this is not your dream
But you always believed in me

Another winter day has come
And gone away
In even Paris and Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home

And I’m surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel alone
Oh, let me go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

Let me go home
I’ve had my run
Baby, I’m done
I gotta go home
Let me go home
It will all be all right
I’ll be home tonight
I’m coming back home

The first time I heard this song I thought, "that could be Sam's song!"

Me too! "Home" is indeed another good choice. The emotion in that song is sooo Sam.

Looking for some important documents at the weekend, I came across some old stuff from the early days of my fandom, including these lyrics - I'm afraid I don't know who wrote them, or who sang it, but many years ago I saw a fan video where these words were set to images from the series, and it was very moving.
This would be one for Sam to sing to Al:

Only One Friend

I always thought you were the best
I guess I always will
I always felt that we were blessed
And I feel that way still
Sometimes we took the hard road
Though we always saw it through
If I had only one friend left, I'd want it to be you.

Sometimes the world was on our side
Sometimes it wasn't fair
Sometimes it gave a helping hand
Sometimes we didn't care
Cos when we were together
It made the dream come true
If I had only one friend left, I'd want it to be you.

Someone who understands me
Who knows me inside out
And helps keep me together
And believes without a doubt
That I could move a mountain
Someone to tell it to
If I had only one friend left, I'd want it to be you.

Cos when we were together
It made the dream come true
If I had only one friend left, I'd want it to be you.

Someone who understands me
Who knows me inside out
And helps keep me together
And believes without a doubt
That I could move a mountain
Someone to tell it to
If I had only one friend left, I'd want it to be you.

In many ways, Al is Sam's only true friend throughout his travels, and Sam knows he is lucky to have him.

Your song is performed by Dan Seals.

And I love Leo Buscaglia. Everything the man ever said is asbolutely profoundly true. . . and I try to give everyone I know a hug, if they let me. ^.^

I mentioned this song in the Mrs Calavicci's thread about her son, and I thought I might post the lyrics here because it is pretty appropriate to QL.

SAM - Olivia Newton-John

I heard that you're on your own now
So am I
I'm living alone now
I was wrong
So were you
What will you do?
Are you glad to be free?
Are you feeling lost just like me?
Longing for company

Oh Sam, Sam, you know where I am
Come around and talk awhile
I need your smile
You need a shoulder
Oh Sam, Sam, you know where I am
And the door is open wide
Come on inside
Longing to see you
Oh Sam, Sam, you know where I am

I find the days hard to face now
Empty rooms
There's much too much space now
And the nights go so slow
I'm sure you know
Wish I knew what to do
It would be so nice seeing you
And it might help you too

Oh Sam, Sam, you know where I am
Come around and talk awhile
I need your smile
You need a shoulder
Oh Sam, Sam, you know where I am
And the door is open wide
Come on inside
Longing to see you
Oh Sam, Sam, you know where I am

Oh Sam, you know where I am
Oh Sam, ooh Sam
You know, you know
You know where I am
