Science Fiction Exploration

Coming back into the dazzling daylight and the warmer atmosphere from being eight hundred thirty two feet under the ground, walking amongst the wonders that rock and water can make, only opened this writer’s eyes to a new world… a way that things can magically happen around you when you least expect it.

Quantum Leap is one of those shows where one writer opened his eyes to a new world. It’s the most interesting thing when you think about it… in any context of the word it is… exploration.

It is amazing to see how a thought can come into a reality. You have to wonder what caused Donald P. Bellasario to come up with such a wonderful concept. Was it something that he wanted to change in his own life that made him create the characters and the concept of Project Quantum Leap? We may never know, but it’s a most entertaining thought and if ever it could be asked to this man, I’d like to know what his answer would be.

The question, "What if" is one that started some of the most entertaining and most interesting stories and television shows out there. The wonders of science fiction are amazing. The characters in science fiction stories/series help us understand our world more clearly. How you may ask? Well, it is because good, evil, power, love, stupidity, and fear affect the characters and places just like it affects us here in reality.

That’s why we to enjoy this series so well. Bellasario has raised thought-provoking and entertaining questions and thoughts. He has also expressed his opinions on aspects of the world and to many of the people who have watched the show; and what’s even more surprising is that we find that our opinions are of the same high caliber as the producer himself.

If you look at the definition of exploration itself you have: to investigate systematically; examine, to search into or travel in for the purpose of discovery.

Quantum Leap, in of itself, has its own element of exploration. You have a man exploring the spaces of time, discovering things that he’d never thought that he’d ever do; working for a greater good to find his way home. It’s not only a noble setting… it is one of great virtue as well.

People need to know that everyone isn’t against them. They need to know that there is someone out there giving their all to do what is right for humanity. To… go out and do just what’s right. Not, what’s right – right now… but what will be right in the long run.

I know that if there was an option, that some people would love to turn back time to reset what they had done, just like resetting the computer when it has its own malfunction. The one thing that stops me from wanting to go back and do something different… is the question… since I made the choice that I have and it’s made me who I am today… would that honestly change me as a person? Would I be different? Probably so. Keeping this in mind, I’m the person that I want to be – not just a body; but heart and soul.

This brings on another question… as far as exploration goes. Am I the person that I am today because of this show that has touched me in such a powerful way?

I honestly don’t know the answer to that question, but I can tell you this much: If I hadn’t been involved with the people that I was involved with in high school, I wouldn’t have been initiated into the Quantum Leap realm. I could have been out partying instead – or doing some bodily harm with drugs. I wouldn’t have made some of the choices that I had, and I most definitely wouldn’t have found out my writing potential from the same friends that led me to QL.

Years later, after finding QL again on the Science Fiction channel and on the USA channel, if I hadn’t sat back down and re-watched them, as I crocheted or if I had never decided to try to write my own story that took me two years to do (even as hokey as it was) or if I hadn’t ever done a search on the internet to look for what Quantum Leap websites were out there, I wouldn’t have found Phoenix Virtual Television in search of writers for the continuation aspect of the show. And if that hadn’t happened, I sure wouldn’t have found a certain website that this whole vision is associated with. Then, if I hadn’t had found this website, then, I would have missed out on all the friendships that I have forged at Al’s Place.

So, if you ever want to ask me straight out: "MJ, how has Quantum Leap affected your life?"

I can say without a shadow of a doubt without a lot of self-exploration that Dr. Sam Beckett and Ex-Rear Admiral Albert Calavicci have done a leap of sort on my life as well. I don’t know where I would be; I don’t even know if I would be the same person that I am now; nor could I tell you if I would have the friends that I do have if it weren’t for them.

Quantum Leap has affected me … has impacted on me over and over that it doesn’t take a lot of people to make a big change in the world around you. It takes one… and the right choice.

So, dear vision readers, I have a question for you…

"How has Quantum Leap affected you?"

Before you answer, search back to where you were when you first saw/read it. If you hadn’t watched… where would you be?
