Ok, so RodVision is somewhat overdue this month. Given
the recent Hard Drive problems The Rod has had to endure these past few weeks He’s
lucky He’s here at all!
On With The Show…….
Classic TV; Resume, Rerun, Remake or
Reinvent
Since The Rod last graced your
screens, Quantum Leap has been confirmed for its 1st season DVD release. The
Rod has duly pre ordered and now awaits His little box of joy.
His last DVD purchase was the
complete Battlestar Galactica series on DVD. Now at this point, many of you are probably
thinking "Hey, wait a second!!", and yeah, for some of The Rod’s longer
term Hot Rodders (Hey Yo Mattman), you will recall Him repeatedly mouthing off regarding
Battlestar Galactica, not that He likes to mouth off ;-)
This got Hi…..
He feels He needs to clarify His
position or lose legions of Hot Rodders & Rodettes respect here!)
His well verbalised stance regarding
this was always directed at the more moronic of the BSG fans, those who preached on about
being "Warriors" (Grrr…….He feels a rant coming!!!!!!!) and so on.
Anyway.
The purchase of BSG and the
announcement of both the DVD set for QL, The BSG film and the forthcoming QL film (Yeah,
well, Guns N Roses have been going on about "Chinese Democracy" for around
2,000,000 years now) got Him thinking.
Should classic TV be remade or
repeated?
Whatever way you look at it, this
new Quantum Leap is a remake. No way in Hell can you call it a continuation! It
doesn’t appear as though Sam is gonna figure, they have a new Leaper so basically its
going to be a remake.
But does this great show deserve to
be remade. By this He means that the Leapers are probably going to be in the majority of
not liking it, and will no doubt rip it apart.
He has a precedent for this:
When he first watched The New BSG
film, He was excited. He has always enjoyed BSG, just got a little soured because of a
minority fan base, but think about it, the New BSG featuring the latest technology for the
battle scenes and so on.
However, it wasn’t the effects
that disappointed Him.
It wasn’t even the actors, the
decision to cast Starbuck as a woman was a great one, and he applauded it (well, what do
you expect, The Rod LOVES watching women people!), plus if Dirk Benedict is cool with it,
then The Rod is cool with it.
It was the REINVENTION, could not
even be called a remake.
They made an original film out of an
old idea. Some may laud this, The Rod does not.
In the original pilot, Lorne Greene
narrates to us about how the peoples who left earth to found the new coloines created the
pyramids and other such wonders. Where was this idea in the new one??
In the original, The Cylons were
fearsome. Now, the Cylons who make The Rod hide are in the minority, the production team
instead choosing the easy (and cheap route) of having the Cylons "evolve" into a
human appearance.
Dude!!!
This is probably the worst thing
about the new one.
The Rod remembers years ago,
visiting Universal Studios over and over ;-) and taking the BSG Adventure (Or whatever it
was called), He remembers being captured by a Cylon raiding party and having to be rescued
by Galactic Warriors.
This new film just didn’t have
the same effect. Don’t get The Rod wrong or anything, He enjoyed it, but it
wasn’t the same.
After watching it, He has to agree
with Richard Hatch on this, they should have called it Battlestar X (X Representing
another ship who survived the human extermination of the Cylon’s) and had the baddies
another race which they encountered on the way to Earth.
This should have been a spin
off!
On to Quantum Leap.
The Rod’s No. 1 fear is that He
will watch the new QL, and think the same thing. Maybe they should just leave Quasntum
Leap where it is, release the DVD Set and then re run the whole thing again. Perhaps it
wont answer the one question the fans want answered, but ask yourself:
Do YOU honestly believe they will CAN
answer this without Scott Bakula making at least a cameo appearance???
The A Team
The next classic series due for
"Remake" is The A Team, with George Clooney (AKA The Killer of The Batman). He
is personally taking charge of remaking this vintage series into guess what: Yup, a major
motion picture.
The last rumour going around was
that while George wanted Mr T to appear once more as BA Barracus, that he was about to
sign Mr Tyson instead.
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!
The only film due for rebirth that
The Rod feels remotely confident with is Knight Rider. For anybody who knows The Rod,
Knight Rider is His all time favourite show.
The Reason for His blind faith is
that David Hasselhoff is heavily involved in this project because his son didn’t
believe he was cool enough to "be" Michael Knight again.
Hey Yo Hasselhoff, if The Great One
DOESN’T see a classic 82 Pontiac Transam in the first 60 minutes, you and He will
fall out dude!
And He Doesn’t want to see a
57’ Chevy either!
