"The Americanization of Machiko"
|
Cut Scenes: The version of the script dated 22nd August 1989 was nearly identical to the broadcast version. Differences of note are: It skips the flashback at the start to Disco Inferno. Naomi is blonde (which changes a couple of references to her hair color). Rusty just spits on the floor when he first sees Sam and Machiko together and he scratches JAP GO HOME on the car door (rather than painting it). The scene with the reverend driving the McKenzie's is moved earlier. Al pleads with Naomi "Not in front of the livestock!" and Rusty seems to be drinking constantly. Machiko spells out to the Ellises that calling them fat is an insult in Japan and continues to be fooled by Naomi by following up with "maybe i will see you again when you're hot to trot" before she realizes she's been had. It's the Indians and the White Sox that apparently wanted Rusty on their teams. Sam invents the Frisbee. The confrontation between Sam and Charlie's parents at the hospital appears to have been added in at a late stage soon before this draft. Several other shots have been removed. The leap out is into Blind Faith. |
