"Dreams"

Cut Scenes: The second version of the script was dated 14th October 1991. In it, there's extra chat between Sam and Roselli during the cold open, setting the scene (some of which was in the longer version of ne leap in at the end of The Wrong Stuff). Captain Vincent gets more material explaining what led up to Stone and Vincent's arrival and reacting to Janice's body. DeCaro's arrest is slowed down a little to explain everything more clearly. Al offers his opinion that Roselli has the hots for Jack (and Roselli flirts a little more openly with him), there's some quential Sam/Roselli material in DeCaro's study. Sam's flashbacks have him refer to Stone's dead parent as "my mother" (not "my mommy" as he repeatedly says in the transmitted version). The ending lasts longer: After Sam collapses to the floor, Al notes "I thought you were hypnotized". Sam replies "Jack was. Not me. Once Crane made him face what was behind the door, he was free. I was free." Al reads his handlink and reports "Crane killed twenty-seven people. We couldn't put it together because he changed his name. You changed history, Sam. You saved the lives of twenty-six people." Sam asks "What about Jack? Will he be all right?", to which Sam confirms "Ziggy says thanks to you, he and Roselli get hitched and retire to Florida." Sam says "I'm glad, Al. I'm really glad" and leaps. The ending as transmitted is far quieter and more poignant. A third draft was written later that day, and a fourth the day after. For the most part they are identical, however by the time of the fourth draft, P.J. has been upgraded from an 'extra' to an official cast member, there's some more artistic shots planned, Roselli has some lines cut, and it's spelled out much more clearly that Jack is considered to be the killer. |
