Cut Scenes: In the first revised script, dated January 4th 1990, George is named Franklin and the family are the Whitehorses, not the Washakies. The Deputy is named Johnston. Sam does not knock Taggart out in the prison cell, so he’s able to call for help. Suzanne is able to convince the Sheriff to take her along for the ride. Joseph is 85, not 71-72. The episode is set in Oklahoma (making the reference to the song less nonsensical). There is an act break placed after Al reveals that Sam is there to help Joseph die. Joseph calls Sam “nikha” throughout, the Cheyenne word for grandson. As Suzanne is travelling with Taggart, she has some brief interplay with him while they track her family (in the episode she talks to Johnston instead). Sam is the one who references Marcus Welby, M.D., not Joseph. Suzanne, with Johnson, contacts the truck via CB radio, not Taggart. Before Sam and Joseph find the horses, Al arrives to warn them that Taggart is closing in. Later, Al explains more about the face painting Joseph is doing. Joseph misquotes Macbeth and references "The Green Lantern" just before Taggart catches up with them. Suzanne chastises Taggart for shooting her brother. Joseph has a lengthy speech about the decline of the native American before they start their ascent to the cave (a small amount of this is moved to the morning after in the episode as broadcast), while Suzanne and Taggart bicker more. In the cave, Al reports that Ziggy is “acting out of sorts”. Sam, Al and Joseph have some brief discussion after escaping the cave. Suzanne and Taggart argue more after Joseph is thrown from his horse. Joseph’s monologue about the spider web of the world goes on much longer, again referencing Sam’s own life (which spooks Al this time). As Suzanne is with Taggart, naturally she doesn’t show up at the same time as she does during the episode, missing the scene where they reunite. Al scares away Taggart’s horse. |
