"Good-bye, Norma Jean"
|
Cut Scenes: In the third draft script, dated 7th December 1992, Marilyn and Sam have a conversation in the car at the start, discussing the possibility that she might star in The Mustangers, which Arthur Miller had started writing when they were married. Al is described as floating alongside the car. There is then an extended sequence of Al talking to Sam about Dennis in the Waiting Room (Al said he was Yul Brynner’s hairdresser) and that 26-year-old Boardman drove Monroe to the Some Like It Hot premiere the previous year. Al took Beth to see Seven Year Itch and got slapped just for thinking about Marilyn. When Sam is concerned about major historical changes, Al reminds him of Lee Harvey Oswald. Marilyn says that too much eyeliner makes her look like a dock worker. When Lawford tries to convince Monroe to let him into her new movie, she mentions Eli Wallach and Thelma Ritter, who were indeed cast. When he performs CPR, the script notes “Tech Adviser will consult”. There is a lengthy extension to the end of the party – Barbara defends Lawford for giving her drugs, Al still struggles to locate Barbara’s (fictional) husband and Doctor Chris Pullbrook advises rest and recuperation for Monroe. After kissing Sam, Marilyn sings a little of the song Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall in Love). Al gets angry during Barbara’s “rehearsal”, yelling “you stole every move from Marilyn!” During the pool scene, a shot of Stockwell walking on water was shot but cut, as seen in a behind-the-scenes video shot during the making of the episode. In one version of the script, the bodyguard is named Loud. |
