Cut Scenes: The first draft script is dated February 22nd 1991. There is an additional scene immediately before the bar scene, in which Sam reacts to the news of Ronnie’s impending death and Al says who Myra is (she is never properly introduced in the broadcast version). Lamar is called Lenny Shump. Myra is a little more reluctant to open up to Sam about Ronnie’s symptoms. Sam says an additional “oh boy” when Sherry turns up in his trailer. Sherry admits that the film Carl was watching “may have been a short”. Lenny/Lamar says the cameras are rolling in “less than ten hours” rather than “24 hours”, suggesting the match is in the morning. Sam points out mitral stenosis (miss-spelt stenonis) is completely treatable. The scene after, where Sam confronts Ronnie with support from Lotty, is missing entirely. The commentating (both official, and Al’s) during the final match is a little different throughout. The Olympics mentioned at the end are 1984, not 1968. |
