Cut Scenes: In the fourth version of the script, dated 21st August 1991, Sam is more overt with his disgust after Al shows up, complaining "I had to wear this hood", which is shortly followed by some extra material for Grady who jokes "yesterday a school bus full of negro children went off a cliff. None of them made it out alive. But you know the real tragedy? There were two empty seats!" Cody quotes his friend Tommy's daddy (in the episode it's Bill's daddy - presumably changed to avoid confusion with the other Tom who's in the 'hunting club'). Sam asks Cody if he loves Ada (not just "do you like Ada", as per the final episode). Sam's excuse for his poor shooting is "It must be the short barrel that's throwing me", later revised to it being a kids gun. There's more anger at Sam during the final scenes: Gene says "He is a traitor" and Tom agrees, calling Sam a "nigga" lover'; later Gene says that he never liked Clyde but accepted him because his daughter did (in the episode Gene says "I always liked you"). Towards the end, Al "tickles the keys of his handlink and pops out of existence", and Gene's and Sam's speeches in the final scene go on for much longer but essentially deliver the same messages. After the hanging scene, where Sam leaps out in the finished episode, the script goes on for a bit longer, showing that Ada is planning to register to vote. |
