"The Last Gunfighter"

Cut Scenes:

In the first version of the script, dated 9th December 1991, Bein Steiner is called Ben Schneider throughout.

We, the audience, are immediately clued into the scenario as there are "a few people in 1950s clothing" amongst those watching the shoot-out during the leap in.

Al compares Sam's outfit to that of Hop-Along Cassidy and Roy Rogers. Al's line "Hi ho Silver!... Oy vey" is split - Al says "Hi ho Silver away" and Sam replies "oy vey".

The Sheriff is surprised that Sam isn't drinking.

When he learns his family story will be on TV, Stevie says "Television! Oh, boy!"

In the televised episode Al recognises the man riding the horses from Bonanza - while in the script he recognises the horses themselves (somehow!)

When Sam manages to improvise a story for Lucy's benefit, Al yells "Beckett for three from the top of the key" and makes the sound of a crowd roaring - Laura comments that Peter would often change the subject too.

Pat Knight remembers other stories, like one in Comstock, or when Tyler shot a midget.

Sam drunkenly says "let's just have another drinkeroo".

Sam tries to get Knight arrested, and the Sheriff refuses saying he won't until he sees Pat trying to kill Tyler (which seems odd - Pat has made some very explicit threats!).

Sam and Al arguing over whether or not Sam should face Knight is a bit later in the script.

There's some extra material after the shoot out which clarifies a little more on Sam's thought process:

SAM:
[beat, flat]
Bang. You're dead.

KNIGHT:
[beat]
Yeah, I guess I am.

OBSERVER: Gee Sam, how'd you know he wasn't going to shoot?

SAM: I didn't.
