"Moments to Live"

Cut Scenes:

Writer Thompson said of this show "I had a scene changed in a script that we just finished shooting that Joe directed. It was at the end and it was very disturbing and very sort of violent and Don said he'd promised NBC a comedy, and so we changed it to something that was even more bizarre in my mind, so you'll have to see it. It's called Moments to Live, but that one I would like to have had back the way it was."

In the first version of the script, dated 31 st January 1992, the leapee is called Lyle Hart (changed to Kyle for the episode, apparently part way through filming).

The uncredited director is named Roger Vickers.

Sam notices that Norma isn't wearing a wedding ring (she took it off, which leads into Sam checking that he hopes Hank doesn't mind).

Norma drops the fan's camera into a champagne bucket (instead of something more gloopy in the episode - soup perhaps?).

The jukebox plays Chances Are by Johnny Mathis.

There's also some references to Mathis, while in the episode proper it's All I Have to Do is Dream, and neither the song or singer are directly referenced - it's possible that when the episode started filming the crew hadn't settled on the song, so it was simply added in post production and the referring lines removed to give flexibility.

Norma eats a cheeseburger rather than French Fries (an odd change).

The waitress is described as a "big, gum-smackin' woman" (the actress cast was of a more slender build).

In the finished episode, Sam has a short monologue after he attempts to escape in the diner, which is missing here.

Milly makes two guesses at the identity of her guest: after Ben Casey she tries Marcus Welby (from the 1969-1976 TV show of the same  name).

Norma serves Sam juice in bed and worries it will get warm (in the episode it's tea that might get cold).

Ziggy is referred to as 'he' three times (the line is changed in the episode to avoid a pronoun).

Sam makes an aside about Lyle's character's sexual exploits ("Recovery room? When did this guy have time to operate?").

Hank's rules have a specific accent to them (Sam reads them as "This includes moanin', groanin' and... squealin'?").

Al suggests Sam dials the operator, not 9-1-1, and then leaves Sam to it when he's convincing Hank to work with him to help Norma (in the episode, he sticks around for moral support).

When Norma yells "what is this?!" Sam replies "it's reality, Norma" - in the episode Bakula's back is to the camera and is dubbed "Norma, it's gonna be OK."

Before Sam knocks out Hank, he says "If you think that's best. I mean, she's your wife. There's just one more thing I'd like you to think about" - Hank asks "What's that?" to which Sam says "This!" and punches him.

Syndication edit:

The sequence in the restaurant where two women check to see if Sam is Kyle and make a comment about Norma Jean is cut.
