"Promised Land"

Cut Scenes: The first version of the script is dated 9th October 1992. In it, the vault containing the money is seen on screen (by the time of broadcast it was offscreen, replaced with some dialogue describing it). The Pierces are a little older, as they've lived in Elk Ridge for 64 years, after being married for 65 (for broadcast it's 54 and 55 respectively). The high school production of Peter Pan is set to be ten years previously. We learn Mandy Greer is now managing a motel with a boy from Ohio. Vernon has driven 150 miles, not 30. When Sam is deciding whether or not to run to his family home, he wonders "I can't change what happens to my Dad, can I?" to which Al shakes his head. Sam and Vernon went to school together - Vernon ran for class president but was disqualified when they caught him stuffing the ballot box. There's some extra material when Vernon catches Sam, with Al threatening "you little weasel! I'd like to grab your Adam's apple and pull it out your nose!" Neil is killed in 1985, not 1977. When Sam meets his father, he claims to be a friend of Sam's and wishes John a happy Christmas on his behalf. In early drafts, several names were relevant to Horvath's personal life - for example a 'McGraw', referencing one of her writing friends. |
