"A Song for the Soul"
|
Cut Scenes: In the second version of the script, dated 4th January 1991, Reverend Walters's dressing down of the girls near the start is spoken over by Sam's monologue (separated for broadcast). Al tells Sam that he went to Catholic schools - Sam says "that was at the orphanage and only until you ran away", leading to some irritability from Al at Sam's selective memory. Jo Jo's chasing of The Lovettes to get onstage is shifted around a bit, probably using some post-production dubbing. Rev Walters says "Sing with all your soul!" twice - once just before Bobby goes out to get the crowd excited and then again, as broadcast, just before the Lovettes go out. After the point where Sam leaps out in the final version, Al explains that in the revised history, Lynell stays at her father's church, becomes a doctor, gets married and goes to medical school. *** Deborah Pratt has fun with Ziggy's pronouns. In the final broadcast none are used, but here we have "Don't look at me. Ziggy's working as fast as he can", "you and I have to trust her statistics over yours... she keeps better records" and "she says that's the problem" across different scenes. |
