Dennis Wolfberg as
Gooshie - PQL Programmer & Stand-in Hologram |
|||
Overview Gooshie is a computer programmer and the programmer of Ziggy. He began working with Sam Beckett in the Starbright Project and later helped him in Project Quantum Leap. He has an on-again, off-again romantic thing with Tina from time to time. The part of Gooshie was played by stand-up comedian and actor Dennis Wolfberg. Gooshie actually appears in a total of six episodes. Biography (taken from Fan-Fiction series, The Starbright Project) Dr. Gushman attended M.I.T., where he majored in computer science and architecture from 1970 to 1974, which was where he met Sam and Professor Dr. Sebastian LoNigro and was then first introduced to the new concept of quantum computing. After college, Irving went to work for the government as a private computer contractor. He was brought in for the Starbright Project in 1982 by Assistant Director Albert Calavicci. He did the main programming on the quantum computing mainframe which he named SID (System Interface Database). He also chose that name from the cat in the comic strip "Ziggy". |

Trivia Gooshie was often described as a "little guy with bad breath". Diagnosed with severe sinusitis while he was in college. Using antibiotics and corticosteroids, he was able to suppress all of the symptoms except for halitosis, also known as chronic bad breath. The name "Dr. Irving Gushman" was taken from the non-canon Quantum Leap novel, Song and Dance. Appearances Genesis The Leap Back Lee Harvey Oswald Killin' Time Mirror Image |

Gigi Rice
as Tina |
|||
Biography Al Calavicci's on-again off-again romantic interest throughout the series, Tina, is mentioned numerous times, but only seen once in 95 episodes. In the altered timeline of events in the episode A Leap For Lisa, Tina is married to Gooshie, as she and Al had never met, as he, as a young U.S. Navy Ensign, was convicted and executed for the death of a Marci Riker, wife of his unit commander CDR Dirk RIker in 1957, before Sam, who leaped into his younger self (played by Jamie Walters), was able to change things back with the help of an Edward St. John V, who was an original lead programmer for Project Quantum Leap that was the hologram guide before events were corrected. In Tina's appearance in The Leap Back, where she's played by Gigi Rice, Tina is presented as being a slightly ditzy, giggly, silly type, as Dr. Beckett and Al switch places, as Al is leaped into 1945, and Sam is able to make it back to the Imaging Chamber, and then the Project Quantum Leap waiting room. The events leading up to Al and Tina's romantic relationship are aborted when Sam is able to change the events of his being MIA during the Vietnam War in 1969 in the series final episode Mirror Image, as Al, through Sam, is able to communicate with his wife at the time Beth, who was reassured that he was still alive, as the events of their marriage changed after he was repatriated in 1973, and they remained married and had four daughters together. We can assume because of this Tina ended up with Gooshie once more. Appearances The Leap Back |

Candy Ann Brown as Dr. Verbena Beeks - Psychiatrist & Hologram |
|||
Biography Dr. Verbena Beeks is the Head Psychiatrist of Project Quantum Leap. The part of Verbena is played by actress Candy Ann Brown. Al doesn't think much of Dr. Beeks's observations most of the time. Dr. Beeks usually enters in the Waiting Room to gather information from the Leapees (people that Sam replaces) to help Dr. Beckett accomplish his goal and leap out. Verbena is very reserved, calm and from what little we have seen of Verbena, she truly cares for everyone in the project. She is seen more frequently and plays a larger role in some of the novels. Roddy McDowall as Edward
St. John V Alternate Reality Hologram with Handlink to "Alpha", Project Quantum Leap's parallel hybrid computer |
|||
Biography Edward St. John V was a former Head Programmer of Project Quantum Leap, who came up with the concept which gave Dr. Sam Beckett the inspiration for the design of the original leaping chamber. He appeared briefly in the episode A Leap For Lisa when Al's fate was changed temporarily. He had a quiet voice and called Sam by his given name, Samuel, much to Sam's dismay. Luckily Sam, with Edward's help, succeeds in changing Al's fate, or, more precisely, Young "Bingo" Calavicci's fate at the 1957 Courts Martial trial, so that he returned to existence as his observer in 1999. Little, if anything else is revealed about Edward and his status. The Part of St. John was played by veteran actor Roddy McDowall. Sam briefly changed Al's future by leaping into the younger he, Ensign "Bingo" Calavicci in 1957, during a Courts Martial where he was accused by his then commanding officer, CDR Riker, of raping and murdering his wife wrongly. Al was briefly replaced by St. John, a stiff upper-crust British gentleman and former Project Quantum Leap Head Programmer, who preferred old-fashioned suits. He called Sam "Samuel," which did not go over well with the time traveler. During this time, Sam begins to lose his memory of Al, in spite of his best efforts. He had no idea who St. John, who he knew of as the project's original head programmer, was, until Edward revealed his identity to him. At one point, St. John called the young Navy Lt. Al, or "Bingo", a "satyr" after he started eyeing and ogling over Tina, who was Goohsie's wife in this alternate timeline. After Sam righted history, Al reappears. Appearances A Leap For Lisa |

Bruce McGill as Al the Bartender |
|||
Biography Albert "Al" Bellisario is a mysterious bartender Dr. Sam Beckett met in the final episode of Quantum Leap. The part of Al the Bartender is played by actor Bruce McGill. He is heavily implied to be the one behind Sam's leaps (though he claims that Sam is the one behind Sam's leaps) and is also assumed to be God Himself. Appearances Mirror Image |
