Quantum Leap: The Radio Show

One of the most important roles Quantum Leap had on society was that it, along with other TV shows of the time, launched some of the big actors before they were famous to the TV screens.

To name but a few, You had the following:

Teri Hatcher (Oh Boy!!): Star Crossed

Eriq LaSalle: Song for the soul

Neil Patrick Harris: Return

Jennifer Aniston (Oh Boy!!): Nowhere to Run

Kurt Fuller: Nuclear Family

Tia Carrere (Oh Boy!!): The Leap Home pt2

Jerry Hardin: Roberto

Willie Garson: Lee Harvey Oswald

Lance LeGault: How The Tess Was Won

Terry Farrell (Oh Boy!!): A Leap for Lisa

Marc Alaimo: Black on White on Fire

Bruce McGill: Mirror Image, Genesis

And of course Scott Bakula & Dean Stockwell became bigger stars as a result of this experience. One difference was that unlike the other shows, Quantum Leap did not always have the new face as the bad guy. In The Rod’s opinion whilst looking back at the reruns, you could tell the bad guy of Airwolf, or Knight Rider, just by looking at the new faces.

Its funny, tune into Airwolf, Knight Rider or The A-team, look at the guest star, theres your bad guy!!!

Perhaps this is the best reason for Quantum Leap to be brought back as a weekly TV show. It isn’t often you have a TV series with so many different characters portrayed. With the advent of Reality TV (Yaaaawwwn) Good TV stories are going down the toilet.

Could this be because new up & coming actors can’t get that "break". Maybe if there were more new actors debuted, this would help to solve the garbage on TV problem.

One of the best trilogies ever created must be the "Back To The Future" trilogy. Having received this DVD package as a present, The Rod had the distinct pleasure of watching them again. He then noticed similarities between QL and BTF. Ok, ok, the most obvious one is that they are both time travel stories.

The whole premise of having a mission to accomplish, the way that future changes were all explained and the comedic routines all seemed very similar to The Rod.

Did Donald P Bellisario have anything to do with the Back To The Future trilogy?

Watching Back to The Future got The Rod thinking. What if Sam leapt into Marty McFly:

• You would have a Time Travel show within a Time Travel film.

• Sam could program the DeLorean to go forward to 1999 and stop himself from leaping.

• Sam would better explain the theories & dangers of time travel to The Doc.

• Sam would never need to steal a skateboard and run, he would simply karate kick Biff into next week. (Although this sequence was hilarious)

The Rod had a thought regarding the soon to be released Quantum Leap DVD’s. DVDs have so much potential for extra footage to be shown. Come on Sci Fi, lets make use of this. Contact The Rod and He can give you some ideas. Until then, here are some freebies:

The original ending to Mirror Image (Hot Rodders/Rodettes, click Here.). They should also include facts (How they created the leap effect??) and or outtakes (Scott fluffing his lines??).

The Rod has a strange feeling that the release of these DVD’s will coincide with something to do with the new Quantum Leap. Keep your eyes peeled Hot Rodders/Rodettes!
