-Born September 28th, 1933
-Joined the Naval Academy in 1958 as an Ensign.
-Attended college at M.I.T. from 1959 to 1962.
-Lieutenant Junior Grade Johnny Bartlett was
stationed from 1962 to 1966 at Holloman Air Force Base with Al
Calavicci until they were both sent to Vietnam. They were supervised by Thomas Collins.
-Bartlett was help as a P.O.W. in Vietnam for 3 years before being repatriated in 1971. He
was taken to the same camp as Al Calavicci for about 2 months and later moved to a new
area. Al asked Bartlett to tell his wife Beth that he was still alive if Johnny ever got
free. By the time Bartlett returned to the U.S., Beth had already remarried.
-Bartlett joined NASA in 1972 and helped design and build the Viking I Mission to Mars
spacecraft. On August 20, 1975 the Viking I was launched. When it returned to Earth in
1976, the Viking brought with it the famous 'Face on Mars'
photo.
-Over the next six years, Bartlett focused his efforts into space exploration. He circled
the moon 10 times during a secret mission never released to the public onboard Apollo 21
with Al Calavicci.
-Bartlett married in 1974. Al has a crush on his beautiful wife Marsha.
-General Thomas Collins brought Al Calavicci and Johnny Bartlett onto the project as his
first and second assistant directors.
