Writer's Notes: Based partially on a dream... can't remember the dream, and I don't think it had anything to do with QL, but I do recall, after waking up, thinking about Sam and Donna being together on New Year's Eve with fireworks. Watching "Star-Crossed" on my DVD gave me the inspiration to throw in the marriage proposal.

Summary: Sam, Donna, Al, Tina, Bobby, and Dana all take a trip together to New York City on the government’s tab for New Year’s Eve. On the plane trip there, Al and Tina get into a fight about Al’s consumption of alcohol, while Sam tells a story about how Bobby nearly died when he ate a fish burger eight years prior.

Once in New York, they try to sign in at the hotel, only to find that somehow the third room reserved for Al and Tina didn’t get reserved. Al becomes enraged and after attacking his own luggage and two bellhops, he is kicked out of the hotel after Bobby convinces not to involve the police. Al leaves on his own, thoughts of his sister Trudy being the root cause of his stress.

The rest of the group worry about Al, but know that he’ll join up with them again. They all settle into bed, while Al is at a jazz bar hooking up with a woman named Vikki from Baltimore.

In the next morning, December 31, Dana wakes up from a nightmare about having died, which have been occurring since 1973 when she was supposed to die in the "original" history. Everybody wakes up and decides to meet at eight o’clock for breakfast. Sam was visiting Bobby when the phone rang, with Al on the other end telling them that he’d meet them at the dinner later that night. Bobby thinks he hears another voice when Al is hanging up, but keeps his suspicions to himself, considering how much damage he felt he already put into Al and Tina’s relationship.

The five of them go to the dinner in the evening, meeting an old colleague of Bobby’s, one Dr. Craig MacMadden. Al shows up just before the dinner is to begin, bringing Vikki with him after figuring that things between him and Tina were through.

As the evening goes on, we find out that Sam wants to propose to Donna, only to find that the ring was left in New Mexico since Al had rushed Sam out of his bedroom. Nonetheless, Sam proposed to Donna at midnight and she accepts. When the night is through, they return to the hotel. The next two days are skipped over, and we jump to the crew leaving on January 3. Al says his farewell to Vikki, and on the cab ride to the airport, he and Tina make up.
