Synopsis & Review

Notes by Matt Dale:

The book has several errors, most of which are reprinted from original typos in the various production materials used (Chunovic even admits as much in the intro to the studio bios). Most glaring of these is probably the suggestion that How the Tess Was Won is set in 1989.

The book was published in March 1993 by Citadel Press (ISBN 978-0806513744) and in the UK by Boxtree in May that year with an added “As seen on BBC2” cover flash (ISBN 978-1852838669).

There was an updated version published by Citadel in December 1995 entitled The Complete Quantum Leap Book (ISBN 978-0806516998), which did not extend the internal plot synopses (these still ran up to the end of season three) but which added A Leap for Lisa and season five to the publicity synopses – the reformatting of this second meant a number of photos were removed, and those for Play it Again, Seymour were erroneously moved to 1957 (alongside A Leap for Lisa and So Help Me God). The rest of the text was identical, although the final page (theorising on the future of the show) was removed. This second edition fixed a few errors and added some new ones.

Summary & review by Dermot Devlin of the former quantumleaping.com:

This is a very informative book for Quantum Leap. Although it is does not contain as much references and information as the 'The A - Z of Quantum Leap' it is none-the-less an excellent book.

This book contains interviews with Scott Bakula, Dean Stockwell, Donald P. Bellisario and Deborah Pratt. We hear stories in these interviews such as:

How Scott landed the role of Dr. Sam Beckett in Quantum Leap
What Dean's favourite moments are whilst filming Quantum leap
What Donald's original idea for Quantum Leap was

Not to be missed information. ;-)

Another feature of this book I found very interesting was that it lists all the 'Kisses with History' that Sam and Al experiences. I did not realise that there was as many in the five years of Quantum Leap until I read this book as you will soon find out. It is more that one every two episodes! You have to keep your eyes opened for some of them.

There are also artist impressions as to how the Sam and Al's clothes are to look for several episodes. There is even an artist impression for the set of the Control Unit at Stallion Gates and for the Electro Therapy room in Shock Theater. Great stuff.

This book is a great 'tib-bits' book for all Leapers and I would recommend it for all. On the other hand if you are looking for a more informative, 'factual' book then The A - Z of Quantum Leap is more the book for you.
