New Years Eve 2002 Louisville, Kentucky It was a night like any other. A night to make new decisions a night to celebrate and a night to be with the ones you love. It was time to ring in the New Year. The room was full of bright red and blue sparkling streamers and the words Happy New Year were placed in appropriate sides to make sure that everyone could see the joyous occasion that they had gathered for. The rock-n-roll music was playing loudly and people were dancing to the music that filled the air. There were people standing on the outskirts of the dance floor, eating the food set out before them; talking and laughing at the anecdotes told. It was a night to remember to look back on the year that was given to them and to see the blessings that they had. Two women stood to the side watching the party going on before them. Both had a glass of champagne in their hand; each sipping at the bubbly and smiling. "Its been a long haul this past year, hasnt it?" one said as she turned to the other. "Yes it has," the other nodded her head; her hazel eyes growing a bit misty at the thought of the past year. "But I wouldnt change it for the world." "Even with the losses your families had " the first questioned softly saddened at the sudden thought. "Yes, even with the losses, Tamlyn. Even more so. At least I know where they are and I feel safer because of it." Tamlyn smiled. "How do you do it, Theresa?" she asked softly. "How do you have so much faith in a world when it seems hopeless?" "I dont know," she said wonderingly herself. "I guess that somewhere deep down, I know theres someone out there watching over us." Tamlyn looked at Theresa wonderingly. "Do you know something that I
dont?" "Maybe." Theresa smiled showing beautiful white teeth. She couldnt help but smile at her best friend that she had met while she was studying psychology in New York. They had met and in that moment, something had clicked and no matter where they finally made their homes, they had always gotten together for New Years to ring in the year and think about the past. Each year, things were better or worse but in the final minutes of that year, they would hold hands together and promise to be back again next year. "What is it? What is it that you wont tell me?" As the clock began to near its final destination, Theresa took Tamlyns hand. "Youll think that Im silly nitwit but you know that saying, that every time you hear a bell ringing, an angel its wings? It just reminds me of a time when I had two angels watching over me and my family. And every time that it seems so bleak, I remember them," she said softly with a smile as a tear rolled down her cheek. "I remember them and how safe they made me feel." Tamlyn pulled her friend to her side and put an arm around her shoulder. "I remember one or two as well when I needed one the most they were there too." Even as the final seconds of the year ticked off the clock, both women looked at each other and raised their glass. "Four three two one HAPPY NEW YEAR!" As the music surrounding them changed from the rock-n-roll to Aude Lange Syne; both of them began to sing the song and remember the two men who had helped them. One remembered a man who loved her for one glorious week before Valentines Day, while the other remembered one man who sang to her and taught her the names of the dinosaurs. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *Thanks for Aurora for making the photo ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Happy New Year to you from me especially the two angels who watched over all of us righting our wrongs ~*~@ Robyn X @~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Should you wish to email Robyn_X about this article or ANY Quantum Leap related matter, you can do so by contacting her at Robyn_X@hotmail.com |
