Rodvision

Which is Better: Regular or New Weekly?

Every good TV series/film needs one very important thing. A Great bad guy!

Quantum Leap brought us different bad guys every week, from the Serial Strangler in Blind Faith to Ptah Hotep and even the Devil Himself (The B*****man), bad guys in Quantum Leap came in all shapes and sizes.

From the looks of current Television, the days of a wanderer encountering different bad guys every week appears to be over. Audiences prefer a regular bad guy/s (The Suliban, The Goauld).

So for Quantum Leap’s next offering to work what do they do?

As far as The Rod sees it, they have 4 choices:

  • Bring in The Evil Leapers
  • Feature a new bad guy in the film, and continue with them
  • Have NO bad guys at all.
  • Aww Hell, make The Rod the bad guy!!

Lets face facts. For a new Quantum Leap series, they need to have either decided to follow Sam’s leaps, and encounter different bad guys, or to establish a bad guy within the TV movie.

Evil Leapers

To The Rod, this makes the most sense. Quantum Leap fans know all about the evil leapers, they know of the mysterious computer Lothos, and His quest to destroy all that Sam Beckett achieved.

Date: March 18th 1977

Location: Unknown

Mission: The evil leapers have long since been associated with undoing all that Sam Beckett has righted. Because of Sam Beckett, The Rod has been brought to the world as an icon. The Evil leapers must prevent Him from being born.

Leaping in a day before His birth and wiping Him out, they hope to achieve the following:

No RodKinis

No RodVision

No RodTernet

No Hot Rodders

No Hot Rodettes

No laughter

The Quantum Leapers Mission: To Stop the Evil Leapers. Life WITHOUT The Rod............Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!!

In all seriousness, perhaps they could do a story on how the evil leapers have tracked Sam down, and are keeping him prisoner or something along those lines. In The Rod’s opinion, The Evil Leapers can be a great set of Bad Guys!

Weekly Bad Guys

As the original series of Quantum Leap/Knight Rider/Airwolf/Street Hawk or any of a lot of different 80’s shows proved, a new baddie every week could be a success. However, does today's audience want this?

Date: July 3rd, 1987

Location: Paris, France

Bad Guy Mission: Pierre, a snooty small black beret and stripey pullover shop owner, faces going out of business due to the big RodKini shop across the street from him. He plans a cunning arson attack on the shop, hoping it would close and leave him to get more business.

The Quantum Leapers Mission: To stop Pierre

No Bad Guys at all

The Rod says that having absolutely no bad guys would probably not work. What would be the point of the leapers quests then:

Date: March 19th, 1977

Location: BF, Idaho.

Leapers Mission: Wash old Mrs. Parker's car as it is filthy.

Answer The Rod something:

How many series can you make out of stories as the above?

Have The Rod as a Bad Guy

This is The Rod’s personal recommendation, with His quickfire sense of humor and His desires for world domination under a single world order:

Rod’s Mission: To create a single world order, imposing certain laws and ruling with an iron fist. These laws would be:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturdays AND Sundays designated as RodKini Days.
  • The Rod would have DAILY TV broadcasts, featuring His RodKini of the day.
  • 24hr AC/DC Channel on both radio and TV
  • All Pizza orders are free
  • Knight Rider/Airwolf gets resurrected and is on daily.

The Quantum Leapers Mission: Now WHY would they wanna stop The Rod?

Hmm, perhaps The Rod as the bad guy isn’t such a great idea after all. He wouldn’t be all that bad.

In Memory

This edition of RodVision is dedicated to the brave crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia who lost their lives yesterday morning, pushing the boundaries of Human Space Exploration.

May they rest in peace.
