07/13/2002 The world of QL is buzzing today, after Sci-Fi announced they would be making a 2 hr film, to hopefully launch a new series of the award winning show. At present, nobody knows if Bakula or Stockwell will be involved, all we do know is that a film is coming. As this column is called Rodvision, The Rod will tell you a few thoughts He had on this matter. (1) Having the younger leaper leap farther due to Al and Sams crossover sounds good, but in practicality probably couldnt happen. It relies too much on an older episode, which the NEW audience may not have seen (or even knew about) it will probably be the case that Sci-Fi are aiming at a new audience (as well as the existing one), so the reason for the new leaper would have to be contained within the movie, and not relying on an older ep. (2) The most probable storyline
for the movie, would focus on the new leaper attempting to locate Sam. Once located, Sam
may come home, and the new leaper may not. (3) Another (unlikely?) Storyline for the movie is continuing the originally scripted ending of Mirror Image., this had Al leaping to find Sam, only to find himself in the future, as a woman. Could have been very funny However, the sticky point for this is whether or not Scott would be in the new series. Scott has (apparently) signed a 3-year (now halfway through??) deal with Paramount for Enterprise. Whilst contemplating this, The Rod theorises the following: (A) Scott will be allowed time off to film the movie (in between Ent Seasons), Scotts contract is most likely halfway done now, so once the movie has been aired, series planning done, his contract should be up, leaving him free to be in the new series. (B) Due to Universal being a competitor with paramount, Scott would NOT be allowed to appear in QL Movie (except by reference to locating Sam), the new movie would have a new leaper unsuccessfully tracking Sam. However, by the time the new series of QL is devised, Scott would hopefully have finished Ent contract (3 years) and would be able to feature more heavily in new QL series. The Rod is aware, that all of the above is purely speculative, but it is now up to the Sci Fi channel to prove The Rod wrong. Keep Leaping, maybe one day YOU can be The Rod. Rod Out! |
