08/09/2002 Evil Leapers…………And Sam???? With the announcement of a possible new leaper in the show, The Rod has got to thinking. What if the new leaper went bad, or was connected with the Evil Leapers. First of all, this theory is dependant on Sam getting home in the Quantum Leap movie. It would involve Sam working on the retrieval program, then someone else volunteering to test it. Sam, tired from leaping for 5-10 years, decides to let them. But disaster!! The new retrieval program doesn’t work; once again the leaper is trapped in the past!!! What if the new leaper went bad though, leapt through time, and decided to change things in his/her favour, making him/her richer or that sort of thing. This could lead to Sam stepping BACK into the accelerator to try and stop them. The new series could involve Sam chasing the leaper round, maybe with some device that could bring them back with him. There could be leaps where Sam doesn’t even come close to the new leaper, and just does his normal righting the wrongs; on the other side of the coin you could have episodes where Sam has them in his sights but they just get away. Evil Leapers Another interesting idea The Rod had was that the evil leapers could actually be related to Project Quantum Leap. It could transpire that the new leaper (Whom Bonnie Hammer hinted could be female) could actually be Alia (The Evil Leaper). Perhaps she could follow the above storyline. Sam wouldn’t recognise her initially, because he hadn’t been home, hadn’t attempted to repair the retrieval program, and hadn’t sent them out yet, but their paths are crossing due to the element of Time Travel. Don’t you just LOVE time travel shows??? They can explain ANYTHING away with temporal anomalies or time pockets or even the great favourite, Temporal Paradoxes. Of course it is far easier and more probable that The Evil Leapers come from either a foreign government project, or indeed from Satan?? Well, if Sam is working for God, couldn’t the bad guys be Satan’s pals? If they came from a secret government project, well, that could have some interesting connotations for storylines. How about the government project captures Sam, or Al. They could even storm Project Quantum Lap and capture the control room. Oh Boy Indeed! Quantum Leap, without Sam?? The Rod thinks Not
The Rod finds it difficult to believe, there could be a Quantum Leap without Sam Beckett. Having given this matter some thought, The Rod has put together the following points: ? Project Quantum Leap is Sam’s baby. If Sam were to return home in the forthcoming (hopefully) movie, knowing the risks, Sam would NOT allow anybody else to leap and surely would wish to run further tests and leap himself if necessary. ? Quantum Leap is all about bringing Sam home. If Sam is brought home, and some other person leaps, this is surely raping the original idea of QL, could the storyline bring us any more original ideas? ? Answer The Rod this: How diverse was the entire QL story (all 5 seasons storylines are available to read through at the Episode Guides here at Al’s Place)? We had Sam leaping into blind people, comedians, pianists, reporters and even a vampire. If someone else were to leap, could we see as or more interesting leaps? Would there be more celebrity leaps? Some consider the celebrity leaps to be a failing of Quantum Leap. Perhaps a new leaper with a different age set, could bring newer leaps? ? Quantum Leap wouldn’t be Quantum Leap without Al and Sam PERIOD. One thing keeping Al in the story line as an observer, but you could not possibly replicate the relationship between Al and Sam with Al and another leaper. Sam and Al were just too good together, plus they had an on screen history. Another leaper may even not uphold Sam’s morals and ethics, and seek to alter history for their own gain.
