Quantum Leap: The Influence......

Many episodes of Quantum Leap were very unique. Unique for the simplest of reasons. They were original. There have been feature films & television series' which may have been influenced by Quantum Leap. Films such as TimeCop, TV episodes in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Enterprise, sliders to name but a few.

The Rod wonders what Donald Bellisario's main influences were. While Quantum Leap had the underlying Sci Fi theme, most of the episodes were anything BUT sci fi oriented.

The New Al???

Here is an interesting thought for you to mull over.

Now that Sam has changed Al's history and gave Al & Beth that second chance, will Al still be the lecherous devil the fans came to know & love.

The Rod doubts it.......

No more will the Leapers be amused by the anecdotal remarks on "ex wives". No more will Al ogle and be distracted by the young ladies on Sam's leaps.

Perhaps this is a good reason for the new Quantum Leap not to have Al Calavicci in it. After all, do the Leapers want to see Al without his tales of adultery and ex-wivery?

Without Al perhaps Sam could not feasibly have a role either. Sam & Al are like Tom & Jerry, you dont get one without the other. With its sometimesserious subject matter, Quantum Leap needed the comic relief provided by Al's tales of debauchery.

Further thought on this matter reveals even more permutations. If Al & Beth are married, what happens toTina? Did the fans ever fid out how Tina & Al met?

Al would never have all the points of reference to EVERY situation to advise Sam.

With the death of Dennis Wolfberg, there is no Gooshie. No bad breath jokes? There will never be the always anticipated Gooshie vs Al showdown for Tina's heart.

However, perhaps with Sam changing Al & Beths history, Al would never have met Sam, Al probably would not have taken to the bottle, Sam would never have met the burnt out Al and brought him on board. Only problemwith this would be that you now have a Temporal Paradox. How can Sam rescue the marriage of his best friend, if they have never met???

Food for thought for sure. Only Donald P. Bellisario knows what will happen, or what DID happen.
