Back cover: IT’S A DANGEROUS DOSE OF DOUBLE TROUBLE FOR SAM BECKETT! It is a bad leap. The most disturbing leap that Sam has ever experienced. A leap so confusing that Al and Ziggy cannot locate Sam. All of Ziggy’s biological computer programs have been broken apart, split down the middle… And the reason? Sam has leapt into Ward Ralston, a selfish, brutal truck driver AND into the body of Ward’s twin brother and exact polar opposite, Mark, a self-sacrificing, gentle professor and environmental activist. The brothers have not spoken to one another for 15 years. But now, by a bizarre and deadly twist of fate, their paths are about to cross inextricably with catastrophic consequences involving unstable nuclear warhead dumping and corporate dirty dealing. And Sam is caught right in the middle… |

Synopsis | ||||||||||||||||||||
May 10, 1986 Oregon Leaping into two different bodies at once, Sam finds himself in the lives of a financially troubled trucker and a successful university professor, an assignment that is complicated when Ziggy calls out sick. Summary & review by Dermot Devlin of the former quantumleaping.com: Sam leaps into one of his most painful leaps to date. It feels like he has been torn in two. He finds himself lying in bed wondering what has happened. Was it all a dream? As the leap progresses Sam realises that he that leapt into a wife beater and the man's wife is about to leave. For some reason Sam convinces her to give him one last chance. Is this Sam's mission? Why is he still here? Sam beings to see that the leapee is a terrible man and that the life he leads is rotten. Sam begins to ponder with the idea that perhaps he should replace this man and his life. He is fed up with leaping around time, putting right that once went wrong for people who at the end of the day mean nothing to him. Al was not appeared for Sam to give him this news. Back in 1999, Ziggy is going crazy. She appears to have been spilt right down the middle. Gooshie and Tina are busying trying to fix her, because as she is, Al cannot stepped into the Imaging Chamber and be holographically transported to Sam. Meanwhile back in the past ANOTHER Sam is wakening up. His time he is a college lecturer and he is having a wonderful leaps. He is mixing with his intellectual peers and feeling happy with himself. This Sam has a newfound respect for Quantum Leaping and cannot wait until he finds out his mission, but where is Al? Is there a connection between the two Sam and their completely opposite feelings? This book never really captured me in the way other Quantum Leap novels or episodes did. C.J. Henderson had a great idea for a Quantum Leap novel, but I felt there was something missing. S/he never explored deeply into the resentment the first Sam felt about leaping. Back in the future with Al, Ziggy, Gooshie and Tina didn't really glue together that entire well. We didn't spend enough them there. C.J. seems to want to hurray back to the past with the Sam's and didn't really develop the plot in 1999. All in all, I would recommend you to read this book, but I wouldn't put it at the top of your list of Quantum Leap novels to read. There are plenty other Quantum Leaps novels I would recommend you to read before this one, as I have mention throughout this section. |
